Thanks for that Lady Lee, I really needed something positive like this, tonight especially. Don't take any notice of all the ol' cynics on this board.... ;-)

So who's having therapy then?
by sweet pea ini have made an appointment to see a therapist who has been highly recommended (i don't think i would ahve taken that step, had it not been for the recommendation and that this therapist is strongly involved with a church so probably has a pretty good idea about the issues involved with cults and the like).
are any of you currently in therapy, have had it or are about to have it?
for those that have, has it helped?

Thanks for your input so far guys and dolls - looks like the overall opinion is that therapy helps whatever you need it for.
Mincan - please go and see your doctor straight away and get a referral to a therapist, go direct, or post away here night and day and we'll all try and help you get through this. In the meantime take deep breaths and remember "this too will pass". Your feelings can be overwhelming at times and unfortunately there's no short cut through the pain but it does get better I promise you. -

Responding To Posters With An Agenda, Who Won't Listen To Reason
by minimus inwhy do we do it??
?
-
sweet pea
Possibly for the same reason we keep trying to reason with Jdubs - we hope that something we say might make them see things differently. Whatever the reason, even if the poster doesn't benefit, the replies might strike with a cord with someone else who does have an open mind.

For those about to, what do you hope to achieve?
This site alone has helped me immensely and I'm not sure what else I can hope to achieve with therapy - I suppose I'm just hoping that I'll learn some extra coping techniques for dealing with what feels like losing the last 36 years of my life, having to start all over again with friendships, dealing with the painful things current JW friends and family do and say and actually trying to work out who I really am.... -

Next FDS Stunt?
by sweet pea inshopoholic is of the opinion that friday's dc talk about obeying/following the faithful and (not so) discreet slave no matter what, is indicative of some dramatic stunt the fds are about to pull.
.
any suggestions as to what this might be?

so let me get this straight
by 4digitcode ini have been on here for only the past 3 days or so....so i don't really know how it goes.. this is an 'apostate' site right?.
so today i've learned that there is just the ol' regular apostate and an 'active' apostate.. but are there actually active witnesses on this site as well??.
because i just saw a topic about someone asking for advice on how to do a talk?.

Welcome 4dc. We have a 'brotherhood' here that is stronger than the witness 'brotherhood'. We have all been through tough times and understand where we're all coming from and do not judge. You can be an atheist, born again, agnostic, catholic, protestant, active/inactive witness, active/inactive apostate, whatever and you are welcome and accepted unconditionally. People really do care here and are prepared to truly help one another. People contribute whether they've said the same things a million times before because they understand their words make a difference to people at whatever stage they're at. Quite a unique place all-in-all.
Look forward to hearing more from you. -

Why, exactly, are you here?
by animal inwhy, exactly, are you here on jwd?.
are you out of the jw's and still needing association with like people?.
do you lack the skills to have real friends in real life?.

To stop me from going back - the mind control of the past 36 years is very strong and so is the pull of all my many friends.

Gratitude for shunning?
by JK666 inwe have all seen the negatine aspects of the jw's shunning da/df people.
i have experienced the hardship emotionally of being cut off from friends and family that are still in the organization.
i do not minimize how much this hurts.. but .

Well said JK.
You've just reminded me of a few my life is definitely better off without.
And who says apostates are just negative all the time?

I had no idea there were people who felt like me
by Orgull ini've recently begun challenging my beliefs.
all my beliefs, including those ingrained in me as one raised "in the truth".. a few years ago i sought therapy for chronic depression and my treatment was remarkably successful.
as a side effect, things that used to "work" for me no longer fit with the new emotional pathways and strengths i was developing.

Welcome Orgull.
You are sooooo not alone! You will experience many emotions and may well need to get some more therapy although JWD can be amazing therapy in itself and you will find great support, love and unconditional acceptance here. You will also have a lot of fun - these apostates aren't all they are made out to be - they are so much more!
Do you have some good friends who are not witnesses? Do you many family who are witnesses?
We all look forward to hearing more from you. -

Yes, definitely. Crumpet, you are sorely missed - hope the studying is going well and you're happy right now.
